Farewell Indian Ocean

Matilda and crew have made it to Cape Town.

We officially crossed from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean at 0630, December 15th rounding Cape Agulhas, the southern-most point on the continent of Africa.

Official readout

There was no big fanfare, no change in watercolor or current or swell, no tollbooth or passport control, no celebrating mermaids or leaping dolphins, not even fireworks. However, it was a big moment for us!

Rounding Cape Agulhas

We passed by The Cape of Good Hope at night and entered Cape Town at first light.

Table Mountain looked down at us “sans tablecloth” and two swing-bridges opened to allow us entry into the marina. The Victoria and Alfred Marina is a large and modern marina abutting a thriving waterfront area with restaurants and shops and a mall. We are so excited to enjoy all that it has to offer.

Our calendar is full with unfamiliar appointments that resemble our lives when we are home in Pasadena – doctor, dentist, hair, nails, optometrist, dinner etc.

Table Mountain

Matilda also has a calendar full of appointments in order to be ready for the Atlantic Ocean crossing – windlass repair, sail repair, canvas repair, generator leak repair, engine service, rigging inspection, bottom cleaning, hull cleaning, stainless and teak cleaning. Hopefully all three of us will be ship-shape and ready to leave with the fleet on January 6th, heading to Namibia.
