The Atlantic Ocean has been crossed!

It’s all done now – we have crossed the Atlantic Ocean and made it to Brazil. We left Cape Town on January 6th and arrived in Cabedelo, Brazil on February 17th. 3800 miles, 3 islands and lots and lots of ocean behind us. We are very grateful to be here.

Fernando de Noronha was our final stop before the mainland.

Dune buggies, scuba diving and dolphin-infested water in the anchorage were the highlights.

Dolphin surrounding our boat

Unfortunately our idyllic anchorage changed drastically when the swell came in, knocking us uncomfortably sideways and requiring 3 anchor resets and one expensive dive from the local scuba guys to free our anchor.

Spectacular diving

We will rest and provision for the first time since Cape Town and then be on our way with the rest of the fleet to Grenada and the Caribbean, a mere 2000 miles. Hopefully we will stop off at Devils Island, French Guiana where the book Papillion was set.

I’m so happy for your accomplishment, and that you get some time in Brazil to provision and hopefully chill out on land a bit…

I love that movie Papillion, it promises to be robust with butterflies if the timing works out right.

Well, I for one am breathing a sigh of relief that Matilda has crossed the mighty Atlantic and that she and her crew are well! Thanks for the update & congratulations! Enjoy Brazil… can’t wait for blog/pics and you’ll be on the home stretch before you know it. ♥️
