Its almost over

We have almost completed our trip around the globe on Matilda. In a few weeks we will cross the finish line in St Lucia with 19 of our fellow ARC boats and it will all be over.

Almost 27,000 miles at sea, 15 months, 4 continents, 3 oceans, 2 seas, 19 countries, 3 capes, and multiple islands and atolls. The shear number of countries visited and the immigration stamps in our passports have created a huge issue for the skipper who has only one page left in his passport with two countries to yet to check in and out of!

We arrived back in the Caribbean and touched land in Grenada. The ARC boats all celebrated heartily and since then we have been meandering our way north. Each sandy Island and anchorage just gets better and better and we are enjoying the slow pace and stress-free days.

The list of items to fix on both Matilda and ourselves is very long but all can wait a little bit longer. We are on “island time”!

We will return home in May after we move Matilda to Trinidad, safely out of the hurricane zone, (we hope). Matilda needs much work to be done after she basically got beaten up for 15 months with no time to do any real fixes. The pace was grueling and the availability of parts and labor in such remote places was a constant challenge.

We are so excited to see family and friends and hope that FaceTime did its job so that our grandchildren and Pippa will recognize us.

Matt, I am here with Ramona tonight in Laguna Niguel and she is going to be dog sitting as we take the kids to Arizona for spring break.

I look forward to getting together in May. When you return your journey looks incredibly speedy from a timetable standpoint, I had Sushi last week with a guy who went around the world, but it took him six years. Looks like you are doing yours in like 16 months or something crazy !
